North England 2023

Trip to the Peak District in north England 2023, featuring Chatsworth House on the way north, hiking around Ladybower Reservoir, Bamford Edge and surrounding areas, and a brief visit to the Abbey Pumping Station Museum on the way home.

Colour photos are Kodak Portra 400 which I rarely used before. It gives great results when it does but somewhat more temperamental than the cheaper Gold 200. Black and White photos are on Ilford HP5 Plus at the stock speed of 400. Equipped with fast lenses such as the Nikkor AI-s 50mm f/1.2 I almost never find the need to push the film speed, not only outdoors but also in very challenging conditions (such as in a cave). Indeed, if the speed is set too high the fastest shutter speed of 1/2000 on a Nikon F3 may not be sufficient, and I mostly avoid this highest shutter speed as I feel it may be less accurate than the intermediate settings.

Inside White Scar Cave where exposure is extremely difficult, however using AI-s 50 f/1.2 I'm satisfied with the results with Ilford HP5 Plus at a stock speed of 400.
