A road trip in my Volvo V70 to France and the Alps over the Christmas holiday at the end of 2023, returning to the UK in 2024. We departed London after staying overnight at a friend’s in the morning and arrived at Dover before lunch time. The usual chaos and queue at the Dover port meant we didn’t land on French soil until well after dark, which meant quite a tiring drive into our first stop in Reims.
Visited Reims cathedral on day 1 before we departed further south to Annecy where we stayed for three days. Featuring a day’s detour to Chamonix to see the Alps, taking a ride on the famous Téléphérique Aiguille du Midi cable car. On leaving Annecy well relaxed we continued further south to Aix en Provence – with a comfort stop in Avignon where we took the opportunity and visited the Pope’s palace. Had two days of chilling in Provence over the new year’s holiday when no other options exsited, before turning back north to Calais to return to the UK, stopping overnight in Troyes.
